Workshop Topics
Workshop 1: Understanding Care Options & Funding in Nova Scotia
Making sense of what’s available — and what’s not.
We’ll walk through the care system in Nova Scotia and explore public vs. private services, Continuing Care assessments, long-term care, home care options, and financial supports like caregiver benefits, grants, and tax credits. This session is ideal for individuals and families planning ahead or feeling overwhelmed by limited resources and long waitlists.
Workshop 2: Navigating Transitions from Hospital to Home
What to expect, what to ask, and how to prepare.
Discharge from hospital often happens quickly, and families are left unsure what comes next. This session will help you prepare for safe transitions, including the questions to ask at discharge, how to set up care at home, and what supports exist for short-term or long-term recovery. Helpful for families supporting loved ones after surgery, illness, or injury.
Workshop 3: Preparing the Home for Aging in Place
How to make your home safe, accessible, and sustainable for the long term.
This session focuses on practical, budget-conscious ways to support aging at home — from fall prevention and home modifications to technology and equipment. We'll also share information on government funding programs and where to find support. Recommended for anyone interested in staying safely in their home as they age.
Workshop 4: Building a Support System & Having ‘The Talk’
Planning for the future starts with open and honest conversations.
This workshop focuses on family dynamics, communication, and planning ahead — especially when discussing topics like care preferences, independence, finances, legal decisions, and end-of-life wishes. Great for adult children, spouses, and anyone looking to have proactive conversations with loved ones.
