Supporting Families Through One of Life’s Most Challenging Journeys
At Remember When HealthCare, we know that navigating a diagnosis like ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) can feel overwhelming—for the person diagnosed and for their entire family. That’s why we’re honoured to spotlight the ALS Society of New Brunswick & Nova Scotia as one of our most deeply respected community partners.
Their mission is clear and powerful: to support people living with ALS and their families with dignity, purpose, and compassion.
More Than a Charity—A Lifeline
ALS is a progressive, life-limiting neurological disease that affects mobility, speech, and eventually breathing. For many families, the diagnosis brings not only grief and uncertainty but also immense logistical and financial strain.
That’s where the ALS Society steps in. With both practical resources and emotional support, they provide a true lifeline for families navigating complex, evolving needs.
The Equipment Loan Program: A Game-Changer for Families
One of the ALS Society’s most impactful offerings is their Equipment Loan Program. On average, a person diagnosed with ALS will need at least five major pieces of medical equipment throughout their journey—often costing over $80,000 in total.
Thanks to generous community and government support, the ALS Society provides this equipment at no cost to their registered clients in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. This includes:
Hospital beds
Lifts and mobility aids
Communication devices
And notably, they are the only ALS Society in Canada that loans out breathing equipment—a critical service as respiratory decline progresses.
This program reduces financial stress while helping families focus on what matters most: time together and quality of life.
Shared Values, Shared Purpose
Much like Remember When HealthCare, the ALS Society believes in dignity-first care and person-centered support. Their advocacy and education help families make informed decisions while ensuring no one feels lost or alone.
Whether it’s assisting with care after leaving hospital, helping coordinate with home healthcare services, or offering emotional support to caregivers, their team walks alongside families with compassion and clarity.
